Privacy Policy
Updated October 6, 2026
This policy covers ScriptlyAI, also presented as Word & Way, operated by Scott McClain, on our website and Android and iPhone apps. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact smcclainpac@gmail.com.
Information you provide
We store account details such as your email, display name, sign-in provider and optional profile photo. We store the content you choose to save: notes, journals, bookmarks, highlights, prayer requests, study answers, personal studies, sermon recordings, transcripts and related materials. This content may reveal religious beliefs or other sensitive personal information.
Activity and preferences
We store reading positions, study progress, watch activity, preferences, feature usage and subscription status to provide synchronization, activity summaries and access to features. Service and security logs may include technical request information such as IP addresses and errors.
Microphone, photos and notifications
Recording requires microphone permission. Photo selection uses your device picker and uploads only the image you choose and save; it does not upload your entire gallery. Native daily verse reminders are scheduled on your device with permission. Website notifications use notification tokens and your reminder preferences. You can change these permissions in device or browser settings.
How content is processed
Google Firebase provides account authentication, database storage and file storage. Google AI services process text, recordings or images when you use features such as transcription, sermon analysis, generated studies, prayers and AI questions. Content needed for your request is sent to those services. External video and Bible services receive requests when their content is loaded. Embedded YouTube videos are subject to Google/YouTube privacy practices.
Subscriptions
Website subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We store customer/subscription identifiers and status; payment card details are handled by Stripe rather than stored in our application database. Stripe may retain transaction records under its legal and financial obligations.
Sharing
Your private notes, journals and study answers are account content. If you share answers or comments with a group, group members can see them, your display name and profile photo. A sermon or image you deliberately share through a public link may be accessible to anyone with that link. Other people may retain their own copies of material you share.
Retention and account deletion
Account content is stored while your account is active until you remove it or request account deletion. Use Settings → Delete account, or the public Delete account page. After identity verification, deletion disables access, cancels associated website subscriptions and removes account content, uploaded files, personal study records, shared answers/comments, memberships and the login. Groups with remaining members continue under another member; other people’s contributions remain. Automated cleanup normally runs within 24 hours and retries failures. A temporary job containing account identifiers is removed after cleanup succeeds.
Limits of deletion
We do not create a recoverable personal-content archive when you delete your account. Service-provider backups, storage recovery copies, security logs and legally required transaction records may persist under provider retention policies or applicable law. These are separate from your active app content. Deletion cannot recall copies other people saved or exported, or immediately erase offline files on devices that are disconnected. Contact us if deletion has not completed or you need help removing local files.
Your choices and security
You can edit your profile, remove saved content, control notification permissions and request account deletion. We use authenticated access and access controls, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Contact us to request access or correction, or to ask about your privacy rights. Please do not send passwords or payment card details.
Children and updates
The service is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child under 13 supplied personal information. We may update this policy as the service changes; the revision date appears above.
